Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I just have a question. I am 19 years old, I don't live with my parents and I also have no health insurance. I have experienced an bacterial infection, and took antibiotics. Now I am experiencings white mucus in my stool. I feel like I always have to use the restroom, but nothing comes out and when it does I have to really push. Should I go to the ER?
HI Well come to HCM Thank for asking Your query being appreciated, you have explained the symptoms, and to confirmed the bacterial infection there should have some clinical evidence and blood test reports, I could guess that it must be the bowel movement related symptoms you must be having, taking antibiotic without any clinical evidence of bacterial infection is not at all advisable, if you exert the force at the time of defection it may cause mucus like liquid comes out, your symptoms seems to be due to IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome ) it is kind of functional disease and not the pathology, just try to control your thought, no need to rush for defecation even because of slight feeling because such feeling of defecation may not be for defecation, stop taking antibiotic, try to come out of the stress hope this information helps. (You can see the doctor just to confirm the infection but not the ER)
