What Causes Muscle Cramping From Hip To Knee In A Diabetic?

I am having muscle cramps throughout my right leg from hip to knee (most painful on inner thigh by knee) and in my right shoulder and upper arm. I woke up this morning with a severe charley horse in my right thigh, so painful I could hardly walk. I am obese, diabetic and am on medication for diabetes. I am also taking an iron supplement weakness and low iron, and am taking CLA to aid in my weight loss efforts, and a few others (multi vitamin, vitamin D, Garcina Cambogia (spl?)). I am hoping the cramps are nothing to be concerned about, but the pain is lasting and I am nervous to lay down to go to sleep because I don t want to wake up like that again.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Cramps are commonly due to dehydration or potassium deficiency.
2. Take plenty of fluids and check serum potassium levels.
3. Take diet rich in potassium like banana, avocado, nuts, fish and egg. Control of blood sugar is important. Regular medication and moderate exercises is also necessary.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
