What Causes Muscle Pain On The Leg After A Keyhole Surgery?

Hello, I had keyhole surgery to treat appendicitis about 12 days ago. Now before my surgery, I could barely walk on my right leg; it was very stiff and felt like the tendons and muscles in my calf and inner thigh were constantly pulling like a closed fist. After my surgery, I noticed immediately that the intense pulling sensation had alleviated and was not as intense anymore, i could apply weight to my right foot much more but still with pain. Today after 12 days since surgery, I still have muscle pains in the back of my calf and inner thigh and my right leg and foot are a bit swollen. *Is this normal after post-op appendicitis? *Is this because of all that pulling before surgery and now its been released that my tendons/muscle fibers are simply injured and its taking along time to recover? *Or do I have a blood clot which I have seen have similar symptoms? I took a break from wearing my TED sock I was given in hospital but have been recommended by family to put it back on again during the day and keep my leg elevated above heart level. But the leg pain just doesnt seems to be taking a long time to recover. I have to sit down after 2 mins of walking as it starts to pull too much on the affected areas of my right leg. I am male, 25yrs old, around 12.5 stone, 6 foot 1 tall and have a BMI rating of 22.5 Many thanks. XXXX

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, substantial amount of calf pain with difficulty in walking indicate most likely underlying deep vein thrombosis involving either femoral or other vessels.

Immediately rush to ER for getting Doppler ultrasound of the lower limbs and further management before it flare up advance level.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
