Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m having muscle aches. I was taking fenofibrate for some time and having muscle aches. I quit taking it for some time and the pain went away. I just started taking it again and the pain started as well. Just wondering if this taking this drug would cause the achey muscles, etc.
Fenofibrate is commonly prescribed to treat hypertriglyceridemia (increased levels of triglycerides in the blood). Generally it is a safer medication, however it can cause myopathy (myositis, muscle pain, etc), gall stones, stomach upset as its important side effects.
You seem to have developed myopathy apparently caused by Fenofibrate.
In view of the above you are advised to consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication for hypertriglyceridemia.
Hope this will help. Take care.
