What Causes Muscle Spasms Near Shoulder Blade Along With Stomach Ache?
I seem to have a muscle spasm (painful knot) below & towards center of left shoulder blade. Pain/ache seems to spread towards center of back, and into middle of stomach, feels like gas pains. I suspect regular muscle pain, but why the ache in stomach? I had regular physical a few months ago and my blood values are excellent. I am 71 years old female and active.
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. You have musculo-skeletal pain at the back with radiation of pain towards the epigastric region. This can happen as in condition in the thoracic region e.g. pneumonia, the pain may be referred to the upper abdomen along the intercostal nerve distribution(epigastrium i.e the stomach region -nerve T8 & T9 segments). The tip of the shoulder & the central part of the diaphragm also have the pain fibers run in the phrenic nerve (C3-5). Alternatively if you have taken any analgesic for your back pain,it can cause gastric pain as side-effect.
