What Causes Nausea Post Levoquin Intake?

My primary care doctor prescribed Doxycylene for Bronchectisis flare up (coughing with fever 99-101 degrees). I did not get better after 4 days, so He changed to Levoquin, which has worked in the past. This time, however, I experienced nausea and general malaise. After 2 doses of Levoquin, and feeling really bad for 2-3 hours after taking each one, I wondered if Levoquin made me feel worse.

Hello,

Levaquin is an antibiotic drug, which will help get your flare up under control. The problem with most strong antibiotics is that, they end up changing your gut flora, giving rise to nausea and diarrhea.

I would advise you at this point to take some probiotics like lactobacillus sachets that are available. Additionally, a tablet of Pantoprazole once a day before breakfast can be taken. I also advise you to increase your consumption of yogurt during this period.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
