What Causes Nausea When Hungry, And Nausea Again After Ingestion?

I will feel nauseous when I am hungry, but sometimes after I eat I feel nauseous again. I workout and drink plenty of water and am concerned because I have to leave social events early due to the nausea. I am thinking about scheduling an appointment with a gastroenterologist and am not sure if that is the right doctor to see.
