What Causes Need To Clear Throat Often After Eating And Drinking?

Hi. I seem to have to clear my throat a lot after eating or drinking. I do get a small amount of phlegm when I do so. Also, it feels like I am choking/suffocating and need to swallow a lot. Could this be acid reflux? Or simply allergies? And, will Prilosec help correct this problem? Or should I try Zyrtec or Claritan? Thanks, Cindy

Hello Cindy,
yes, the problem could be due to allergy or an acid reflux but do not take any medicine without a visit to your doctor first....
As a first line measure, cut down on tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages and colas, smoking, fried, processed and spicy foods; drink lots of water and have quick and easy home cooked meals like porridge and soups, reduce exposure or dust and smoke and try some steam inhalations with tincture of benzoin- good luck!
