What Causes Nose Bleeding While Suffering From Concussion?
My 17 year old daughter sustained a concussion 10 days ago. Hit her forehead on the steering wheel when she slammed on the brakes. Has a vertical lump. No bruising. Head pain in this area is an 8. Have been to er twice. Ct and X-ray s unremarkable. Has had 2 bloody noses since this happened. Doesn t normally have them. Could this be injury/damage to sinuses and not completely concussion related?
Nose bleeds after injury to face or forehead can be due to trauma to nose and surrounding structures of due to blood pathology. as she did no normally have nose bleeds earlier, it is more likely that there is some trauma to nasal structure which is not evident in X-ray or even CT. A complete blood count study, BT, CT, PT would be required along with examination by ENT surgeon preferably at time of bleeding. Tab vit K analogues may be taken.
