What Causes Numbness And Stabbing Pain In Knee Years After Injury?

I had a fall and twisted my knee, I now have a minor meniscus tear which seemed to heal but then I had pain around a month later which kept me awake for over a years, reacently the pain changed to a stabbing pain when kneeling and more recently numbness down the side of my knee, could these symptoms be degenerative or directly from the fall.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I have studied your case and I think that your knee might have a cartilage or meniscus injury. I would recommend you to get MRI of the knee joint. This MRI will show us if there is any cartilage injury or a ligament is torn, and than according to that we can plan for treatment. If there is any nerve compression than it can be checked also but that seems less likely.
Meniscus needs arthroscopic menisectomy and rarely such tears heals without any treatment. Ligament tear also needs reconstruction.
I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
Thanks
