What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Hands And Forearms?

I have numbness and tingling in both my hands and forearms. This started about 6 months ago and has started to increase in frequency. It wakes me up at night and I am having trouble writing and driving because the numbness stars to get to painful unless I have my arms resting at my sides.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You will probably need a neurological examination by a neurologist and possible some imaging films of the head and neck and some lab studies. I'd probably order an MRI of the brain and cervical spine with contrast as well as blood work after getting plain films. If nothing shows up in the films then, I might go for an EMG/NCV study which will tell us the source of the problem (i.e. either within the spinal cord above the spinal cord or below the spinal cord.).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. by contacting me at: www.bit.ly/drdariushsaghafi
