Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 80 years old and have in the last 2 months been having the numbness from my waist down to my feet. It usually lasts a few minutes then goes away. Sometimes the numbness also feels like pressure and a little pain. It helps to sit down but doesn't make it go away. I sleep okay at night. I'm a very active woman and help with my young grandchildren. Is there something I should do or take?
Hello.Considering your age we would like to keep few things in our mind.At this age there is high chance of Diabetes.Diabetes damages nerves which causes tingling or numbness.Dietary deficiency of vitamin b12 can also cause the same. You should start consuming Meat as it has a lot of vitamin b12.Your numbness is associated with pain and pressure so this could because of nerve entrapment in the vertebrae. So I would like you to visit a Diabetologist and get your sugars checked and also get your labs done for vitamin b12.If the labs are fine then you may have to see an orthopedic doctor with MRI of your backbone just to double check if any nerve is entrapped.I hope I have answered all your questions and guided you in a correct way.
