I have had back problems in the past and have been treated with steriod injections to eleviate the pain.this has worked in the pain but i had a flare up with back pain recently and it has caused numbness in my calf and feet. this numbness is something i had not expierenced before and has lasted for about a week and a half. I am taking Gabapentin for nerve issues that i have had in the past but nothing as persist as what im facing right now. im sure that my siatic nerve is the cause of the problem which has caused me issue in the past is there anything else out there that I should be doing/using to correct this issue.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I think that you are having these problems due to compression of some exiting nerve root in your lumbar sign. This compression may be due to disc prolapsed, spondylosis, osteophyte or any bony displacement. All you need is a good quality MRI of lumbosacral spine to make a diagnosis. As per MRI further management will be decided whether conservative or operative. Then you can consult us again or consult a good spine surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
