What Causes Numbness In The Hand Post A Shoulder Surgery?

I had surgery last Wed. Surgeon put in a hemicap on my shoulder and took pin out of elbow. Had general anesth and a block on right arm. Since surgery my hand and fingers are numb. Working on that in PT. My hand and fingers are just always cold now. I wear a mitten when up and am putting a hot pad on it when in bed to warm it up. Just wanting to make sure that is ok. See my surgeon in the morning. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to a pinched nerve in the arm, probably due to a prolonged pressure in a certain position. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your physician for a physical exam. If your symptoms persist, performing nerve conduction studies may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iliri
