What Causes Numbness In The Hands And Feet While On Nitrofurantoin?
I developed pretty severe numbness in my hands and feet after taking six days of Nitrofurantoin 100 mg. It has been three weeks since I stopped the medication, but my feel are still extremely number, and always feel like blocks of ice. All I know to do is drink lots of water to try to continue flushing any remaining antibiotic out of my system. Any ideas on how to get my feet back? Please and thank you! Jane Fitzgerald
Numbness in the hands and feet is not due to any antibiotic nor does it seem to be due to any illness but it could be due to nonspecific reasons. General weakness may be the cause. It could be due to hormonal changes (pretty common in females); a viral infection could be the cause but the chances of it are very rare.
Just be patient, it will be fine soon. Such feelings or symptoms may not need any treatment. The only thing is it should not last long, or else it demands medical attention and needs clinical examination.
