What Causes Numbness In The Temple Region?

My left temple has been numb for 4 or 5 days. Not tingling numb, just like novocaine numb. It's been constant in the temple area, but off & on in my 2 middle fingers on left hand. My fingers are tingling kind of numb. No other symptoms that I've noticed. No idea what could have caused it in the first place either.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to anxiety or tension type headache.

The tingling in the fingers may be related to a peripheral nerve compression, probably after holding your hand in a certain position for a long time.

Anyway, these troubles do not indicate any serious underlying medical condition.

So, relax, there is nothing to worry about!

If the problems persists, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist for a careful neurological exam and some tests:

- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for any imbalance
- a nerve conduction study for possible peripheral nerve compression (a pinched nerve).

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Best wishes, Dr. Aida
