What Causes Numbness In The Thigh Post Gabapentin Intake?
I was prescribed Gabapentin for nerve pain in my left thigh for the first time. It has relieved the pain but my thigh in the exact area where the pain was is numb. It feels like when you get a shot in your mouth to remove a tooth. It feels weird even though the pain is gone. Is this normal or should I be worried. I scratched my leg but done feel my nails only the pressure of being touched. Does this make sense?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The gabapentin has apparently done its job in modulating the PAIN, however, what's now happened is that an UNDERLYING numbness that was also present (but unrecognized because of the more intense feeling of pain) has now come to the forefront. You should consult a neurologist for the workup necessary to identify the REASON for both the pain and numbness (i.e. nerves being compressed/distorted/irritated). Therein will lie the solution to your problem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
