What Causes Numbness In The Thumb Post A Head Injury?
Hi, can I answer your health question? Please type your question here...2 November s ago I was bent over pushing a bucket across the floor and rammed my head into the corner of a sink. It musta hit a nerve bc my arm was just dangling there and it HURT so bad for days. I mean it was the worst! The pain went away but ever since my thumb especially is numb. It feels like somebody cut my thumb off and sewed on somebody else s. Because of that it has little dexterity and its all clumsy. Also I feel the shooting nerve pain going down my wrist. It feels like pins and needles the whole wrist at times. Am I permanently damaged? Can u fix me?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You may be suffering from a traumatic radiculopathy that compressed the C5 or C6 nerve root. Your case should be first reviewed by a neurologist who will do a complete neurological examination of the neck, shoulder, and right upper extremity. Images and electrical studies will have to be obtained. Next, if appropriate the neurologist will likely consult with an orthopedist or more likely a neurosurgeon to see if any surgical avenues exist to fix or improve the problem. Medication for neuropathic symptoms that you describe may help reduce pain and other discomforts you mention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dariush Saghafi
