What Causes Occipital Headaches?

Hello I am 25 year old. And I have a history of syncope, migraines (which I was told by doctor). This all started last year on May, 2017 with high fever. They have done all type of testing of blood work, MRI, x-ray, etc. Seen Cardiologist and seeing Neurologist at moment. And they tell me that all my labs are normal, just a bit anemic which I knew I had. They have even put with a pace maker close to my heart for two weeks and was told that they didn t see any abnormalities. I have tried all type of medication for migraines. There are days I don t have any symptoms, but the days I do get headaches they are bad. I mostly feel the pain in the occipital area of my head. There are other days that I am normal at work then I feel my heart passing to the point that it gets me dizzy and I feel like I am going to pass out. At nights I have nights I can t sleep because of the same issue I feel like I am going to pass out and then I feel my whole left arm tingles. They have asked if I get anxious or start to panic, and my answer is no. What I have noticed lately is that when I get the headache I am starting to have pimples all over my head & when I try to touch them it makes me dizzy. I just want answers to what I have, I know that there is something but I don t know what else to do. I eat healthy, workout, and love my job.

Hi,

The location and movement of a pain give clues as to what is going on the occipital is potentially from a lot of areas/causes but inside the head isn't one of them. The nerves to that region come from the top of the neck and neck X-rays would be a place to start. A migraine is not typically just in the back of the head and would be associated with a lot of other symptoms such as being a "sick headache" with nausea, vomiting avoiding light and noise.

In this case, anything that damps down the brain might work (antiepileptics, Lidocaine-like pills, and of course the Triptan drugs.)

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
