What Causes Outer Thigh Pain After A Laproscopic Hernia Surgery?

My 5 year old niece had laproscopic hernia surgery last Wednesday. She has complained of outer thigh pain since she came out of surgery. she can t walk it hurts so bad, my sister called the Dr. and they said to double up on her pain meds? she s fine when she is on the pain meds but as soon as they wear off she acts like a completely different person and won t walk...is this possible nerve damage and is this permanent?Thankyou in advance for any information you have on this.
