What Causes Pain All Over Rib Cage While Having Stomach Infection?

I am having serious pain all over my rib cage. I am in the middle of a stomach virus and have also been dealing with severe stomach pains all evening. The rib pain I would describe as a severe ache. It s in the front and the back, but the worst pain is in the back. It almost feels like back pain, but it isn t. Help!

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of pain all over rib cage, have stomach virus, stomach pains all evening; the rib pain is like severe ache, front and back too.
The commonest causes I can think of causing such a pain are:
The viral infection can cause costochondritis and hence the pain in the ribs as you have explained.
The other causes can be like actual gastrointestinal infection, the toxemia causing all the symptoms that you have.
This can be diagnosed by the following:
Culture and sensitivity of the blood.
Tests of stool on 3 consecutive days.
Proper antibiotic cover if indicated by the test reports, maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance.
Other symptomatic medicines as needed like anti-inflammatory medicines with pain killer properties.
