What Causes Pain And Lump In The IV Pierced Skin?

I had brain surgery two weeks ago (vp shunt revision). They set an IV for antibiotics and anestesia among other things, and now there is a hard lump the size of a pea approx. 1 inch from the point of where the iv pierced the skin. Now I am having shooting pains up my arm... should I be concerned?

Hi,
The lump is most likely to be due to inflammation of the vein from the IV line. This will settle down but may take a few weeks before it is entirely better.
Regards,
