What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Throat After A Tonsillectomy?
Hi, I had a tonsillectomy 4 weeks ago. Before the tonsillectomy I had a swollen gland or lump like inflammation on my right side of my throat near where there submandibular gland is. After the operation the swelling went down for a few days and now the lump/inflammation has come back. I’m in constant pain in the same area on the right side and also numbness in the right side of my face going up to my right ear. Pain meds don’t help much at all. The only time I don’t have any pain is when I’m sleeping or lying down. I’m also getting itchiness in my right as well but the GP said it’s all clear. Any idea as to why this right side gland is in pain and inflamed. I’ve been on antibiotics 8 times since the inflammation came even before and after surgery and it hasn’t helped. I need advise. CT scan before surgery was clear and full blood count was clear also but I’m still in constant pain

What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Throat After A Tonsillectomy?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Lump may be due to enlargement of submandibular lymph nodes. It may be due to infection or lymphoma etc. means your oral cavity contain organisms that carry infection. If not improved need biopsy of node. Continue antibiotics. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor. He will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
