What Causes Pain And Popping Sensation In Knee Joint?

I am having problem with my knee. I did not have problems till I moved large items up stairs while moving to a new home. It keeps popping out of place. It has to pop every 5 mins or so. Its very painful till it does pop. also feels like something is catching in the knee when I bend it. There is a knot that I can feel when the knee is bent all the way. do I need to see dr or will rest and excerise fix the problem
