Rheumatologist 's  Response
Dear Barbara,
Do consult your nearest Rheumatologist for the evaluation of the swollen joint.A single swollen joint is always to be treated aggressively and based on the causative factor, the treatment differs.Infections need to be ruled out too apart from inflammation due to crystalline diseases and pure inflammatory disorders. The more you delay the treatment, the more the damage will be to the joint. The pain is also intolerable majority of the times.Do consult your nearest Rheumatologist and take care.
