What Causes Pain And Soreness In Adam S Apple When I Cough?

I could feel phlegm in my throat so I started trying to cough it up. Now my adams apple hurts or is sore when I cough or swallow. My throat is not sore, just my adams apple. I hurts some just sitting here. This just started about 2 hours ago. I have had many sore throats but this is a little strange. Also it feels tight right on and below the adam apple. If I yawn it hurts too, not unbearable but definitely noticeable. The phlegm seems to be very thick and does not want to come out.

Hi Dear ,

As per your query your adam's apple is sore and your are experiencing pain . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like sore throat either due to bacterial infection or viral infection or it can occur due to acid reflux . But in your case it seems to me that pain and soreness is due to acid reflux . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order endoscopy , X-ray of upper digestive track . Doctor may prescribe antacid , ranitidine and omeprazole . Doctor may also prescribe drug like sucralfate to heal the damage done by acid . Avoid spcy and heavy food .
