What Causes Pain And Swelling In Knuckle Near To Thumb?

Hi, whilst using my wood lathe a couple of months ago a part of the drill chuck hit my knuckle closest to my thumb. It was very saw but i thought I d let it settle. Now it has started to hurt badly, has become swollen and I can t hold anything that uses y index finger. Any ideas. Regards Melvin Gray
