What Causes Pain And Swelling In Neck And Leg?

My daughter in law is experiencing pain in her back, swollen, and pain going down her leg with a feeling of heat going down her leg. She has recently had back surgery and just a few days later she was in a car accident (hit in the passenger rear quarter) and she was the passenger. Any idea what may be causing this?
