My friend is a 67 year old man he is having a lot of pain and swelling in his feet. He had a bout of Gout in his large toes on the side of the toe in the join area. But now he has a lot of pain and swelling in the padded ball area of his feet and pain across the top of his feet at the base of the toes could this also be gout? he can hardly walk and he bought shoes like 3 times as big as he normally uses. A lot of pain in the morning can hardly stand on his feet in the morning but they hurt him all day.

This might be the burning feet syndrome and it has multiple causes yes this might be due to elevated serum uric acid levels , it might be due to vitamin B12 deficiency and this might be due to diabetic neuropathy aswell. The second possible cause could be planter fasciiatis. I would recommend to get serum uric acid levels done and start him on NSAIDS along with vitamin B12 suppliments and get his HbA1c levels.
