Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the last two weeks I have been experiencing weakness in my right knee when I go up stairs. The knee feels weak, like it is going to buckel and I get a sharp pain around the knee. My left knee began making cracking sounds every time I descend stairs or try to exercise there is no pain in the left knee just cracking sounds. There is no cracking in the right knee, just sharp pain and weakness. I have not injured either knee.

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. As you get a cracking sound while descend stairs a meniscal injury can be suspected. But even osteoarthritis will give such pain and symptoms.A thorough physical examination with an orthopedician and a x ray is necessary to rule out this.In case of suspecting meniscal injury from physical findings a MRI will be needed to rule out this.Icing the joint, do elastic bandage and quadriceps strengthening exercises will helps you.NSAID tablets like diclofenac and local application of NSAIDs and caspacin will help to relieve the pain and inflammation.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
