Intravenous injection by self can lead to several complications. Pain is one of them which you appear to have developed. Pain can be due to several reasons, most common one of them is accidental injury to a nerve in the vicinity of the vein. This can lead to pain that could last for days or weeks depending on the severity. In addition, infection of the vein can lead to severe pain and tenderness, also, injecting the drug into surrounding tissue instead of inside the vein etc. The arm will have to be examined in order to diagnose the cause of this pain and administer treatment.
It is advisable to visit your doctor at the earliest for appropriate treatment.
Hope your query is answered, Dr Anjana Rao Kavoor
