What Causes Pain At The Point Of Plate Insertion In Ulna?
Hello, I fractured my ulna and radius 13 years ago and had metal plates and pins put in both. Over the past week i have been experiencing constant pain where the plate is on my ulna and hurts to lift anything. It looks slightly swollen and is sore to press on. I have not done anything recently which would have injured it. What should i do about this?
I have studied your case and I think it can be due to a metal reaction. It is due to metal causing erosion of the bone. I would suggest you to get x ray and show it to orthopaedic surgeon to confirm this diagnosis. If there is slightest suspicion of the metal reaction than it would be better that you should get this plate removed. Keeping metal plate for so much long time is not advisable as some time it can make underline bone weak and it can cause a re fracture, So it is better to remove it. I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
