Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am female 30 years old I'm 5'9" and weigh about 250 lb. My right knee makes a crecking sounds when I bend it. It has been doing this for about a year and a half now. Before the crecking started I would get pains in my knee about once a month it would get so bad I wouldn't be able to bend it .
When I stopped working I pain stopped and the crecking began. I thought it was better but the crecking does have pain to it. When I get up every morning I stretch and twist and my knees always pop and I when I extend my right arm that pops to, nothing else pops but those. I dont know if it makes a differance or if any of it goes together but these are my symptoms. I realy need relief for my knee.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. As you describe the symptoms as painless loud crunching noise, I do not think we have any reasons to worry.
Sometimes as a normal phenomena, fluid (synovial fluid) that lubricate the joint release bubbles which pop and crackle with movement. This occurs very commonly after a period of inactivity or during certain movements. I am not sure if this is what you have, but this is my most likely explanation to your symptoms.
You don't need to worry if there is no associated joint pain; but you have to do some conditioning exercises to improve the overall integrity of the joint - stronger muscle will take the weight of the joint and help to reduce the pressure on articulating surfaces, thus preventing any damage to the joint. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
