What is the situation when pain begins in the ankle and in time begins to travel to the knee and then the thigh? My friend just left and mentioned her massuse found a lump in her thigh ...and "worked on it."

I didn't want to frighten her but suggested she see a physician immediately (I'm already thinking PAD or Thrombosis). She said the ankle pain began all of a sudden and began traveling up her leg...She was limping and had difficult going down two steps from the front of my house. I have oseteo -Arth. and fight with my knee on a daily basis but what she is describing and what I saw makes me believe that advising her to get medical info ASAP was the right thing to do...Please advise....and thank you!
