What Causes Pain From The Sternum To The Throat?

I had pain(kinda like a electrical current) that started in my sternum going up to my throat (did not hurt to swallow, more like a brain freeze) up the side of my face to my head. The pain subsided to a dull headache. Could this be something serious? This was a few days ago. I am ok now, just feel anxious and tired

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dear pain from sternum to mouth may be due to gastro-esophageal reflux disease or acute gastritis with GERD.
Other possibilities like costocondritis, intercostal muscle spasm or pleurisy cardiac pain etc.. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food and alcohol, avoid smoking. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
