What Causes Pain In Arm And Shoulder After Getting A Flu Shot?
I've had an annual flu shot for a number of years, with no apparent negative effect. I a 73 year old male. Yesterday I got the high dosage flu shot. It stung as it went in, which I have never experienced before. After a few hours my arm and shoulder started to ache. Today (the day after the injection) I can't raise my arm without severe sharp pain. The pain in my shoulder and arm is like a severe toothache. The injection site is warmer and slightly swollen. Should I be concerned?
Hello Thank you for writing to us on Health care Magic. Based on your history the response to your question is as follows. 1. Not to be concerned. 2. You have had a intramuscular injection. Due to this, any muscle related work will be painful like moving arm or shoulders. 3. Swelling and warm feeling due to injection, not necessary a flu shot, is always seen. Application of icepack will reduce swelling. 4. Paracetamol can be taken for pain. Nothing else is necessary and not to worry. Hope this is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions. Thank you
