Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have issues with my arms falling alseep, it is very painful. I often wake up at night. It is also bad when I hold a tool of somesort or the steering wheel. Sometimes pain down the back of right leg. What might be causing this and what can be done?
Two diagnosis come to mind from the description of you symptoms. The first is carpal tunnel syndrome which typically causes hand and arm pain as well as numbness in the hand and wakes patients from sleep at night. This is because of compression of the median nerve at the wrist.
The second diagnosis would be nerve root compression in your neck due to arthritis in your cervical spine. A similar problem in your lower back could be giving you the leg pain which we call sciatica.
You should see a doctor who can take a full medical history and perform a physicial examination which will help point toward a particular diagnosis.
Appropriate investigations such as an MRI scan of your spine and or nerve conduction studies in your arms can be performed to confirm the Dr's impression of the cause of your symptoms.
I hope I have addressed your concerns.
Best wishes
