my relative undergone hyperpara thyroidism operation 2 years back. now her serum calcium level is 8.5. but stil he is saying there is a pain in backbone and neck bone. (note: he is wearing neck belt while walking and sitting). what wil be the reason?
There can be various causes and a full workup for these complaints is highly recommended. I will say that any alteration in calcium levels can result in bone formation/resorption abnormalities, and that proper medical regimen and or diet in regards to Parathyroid homeostasis is essential as to ensure a solid calcium balance. Of course, any candidate of previous surgical intervention also potentially may suffer consequences of damage to nerves, and or nearby structures, potentially also the cause of these complaints. I would suggest a formal workup with a Primary Care Physician involving blood work chemistry and imaging to assess for any fractures and or instability of your relatives back and neck pain. Warm Regards.
