My friend has a dull pain in chest breastbone area and has been in to hospital and had ECG clear and now dismissed taking heparin as precaution of blood clot to return 10-14 days for chest scan. However the last couple of days he has felt discomfort eating and was sick yesterday morning and brought his meal back up last night. I an concerned that this might be pointing to a problem with esophagus therefore should he return to go or hospital before appt which has not arrived yet.
Thanks for your question On HCM. Since his ECG is normal, no need to worry much for cardiac cause. His history and symptoms like stomach pain, vomiting are suggestive of GERD(Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease). It is due to laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this the acid of the stomach tends to come up and cause the symptoms. Ask him to follow these steps for relief. 1. Avoid hot and spicy food. 2. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals. 3. Avoid stress and anxiety. 4. Take proton pump inhibitors. 5. Go for walk after meals. 6. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed.
