Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 5 year old woke up this morning saying that his head hurt (right behind his ear). I asked him if his ear hurt and he said it did not. That pain went away after a few mins but then he started complaining of his chest hurting (up high close to his neck) He has a fever of 100.3 and I put my hand on his chest and could feel his heart pounding hard. I felt his radial pulse, it didn t feel extremely fast for a child.
By what you say I feel that this is a viral illness with non specific symptoms which is starting.
I will explain you how are viral illness behaves so that you can be more confident.
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day.
If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
