My husband has bone cancer and recently was told his optic nerves are swollen very badly. We saw a neurologist and they gave him some medicine but he was unable to take it, now he takes Lacix. But that isn t helping, they seem to have No answers as to why he now has no muscle tone left, is unable to walk or stand much at all. He is taking 6 calcium pills a day and his calicum is still dropping. He is in a lot of pain in his joints and muscles. This is not the cancer. Any ideas?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have studied your case. As you mentioned that he has been diagnosed as bone cancer patient. So he is having low calcium as it is unusual complication by bone tumour.I do not think that taking pills is only solution. I would suggest you to meet a intensivist and check if he really needs so much calcium.
usually cancer causes increase in blood calcium level. So I would recommend you to get his biopsy once again.
I would also not sure if lasix can decrease nerve edema. Steroids are far better medicines .
thanks
