Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In Shoulder Area While Breathing In After A Fall?
Hi I fell down stairs last night and had excruciating pain in my right shoulder area just below scapula. I have a stabbing pain when breathing in deeply but not as bad as when I cough. I am able to move both arms around freely and whilst sitting down in an upright position all syptoms ease. Been taking Neurofen express every four hours. I also got hematoma on my right hip with friction burn from the stair carpet. I can raise my arms above my head and there is no problem. Would you suggest it is a muscular injury as opposed to ribs or lungs?
In my opinion, the symptoms can be related to a muscle injury. I suggest to do an X-ray to exclude a rib fracture. I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain. I also recommend cold compresses for local application.
Rest is necessary for fast recovery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
