Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My ankle hurts near my Achilles tendon. It is tight and hard to walk on. The pain feels almost hot and stabbing and resonates up into the lower part of my calf muscle. Specifically, the pain generates from the meaty part between the tendon and the bones (closer to the tendon) on the interior side. It is also very tight but will loosen up slightly as the day goes on. Ultimately, my gait becomes more pronated as the day ends to alleviate the pain. In the morning I can barely walk down the stairs. I have no major injuries to this ankle but I have sprained it a few times in my life. Likewise, there is no injury that this pain is stemming from. I do workout regularly as well as run regularly. I typically run about 4-6 miles 4 or 5 times a week however, I have reduced that over the last month due to the pain. I have never experienced anything like this and I do regularly get new running shoes at 400-500 miles. Is this standard pain from exertion or is this something that needs treatment?
As the first line of management, you can take analgesics like acetaminophen or diclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist, better to consult an orthopaedician and get evaluated.
