What Causes Pain In The Knee Even With A Small Tap Or Bumping?

Hi, About 5-6 months ago I was out playing with my daughter and boyfriend we were having a water fight, I went to run up the concrete steps to run in our house and slipped, when I slipped I bashed my knee on the edge of the concrete steps and was in a lot of pain. After I finally stood up my knee was making grinding popping sounds and was very hard to walk on it. Now its been months I have no medical so I never went to get it look at. To this day, every time I lightly tap or bump it on anything I fall to the ground in tears.. for example I was just crawling into bed and something triggered the pain and now its hard to walk up and down stairs and I have pain goi threw my leg. I also have a lump on my knee that pops out, I don't have that on my other knee so of course it can't be normal! I just want to know how serious this is? I'm only 23 I don't want to already have knee problems!

Hi,

I have gone through your query.
From your medical history it seems that after hitting you may have fractured patella or tear of ligament. Since you haven't took it seriously, it is causing you discomfort.
In these case first clinical examination is done by a orthopedic doctor and then investigations like X-ray for ruling out fracture and MRI knee to rule out ligament tear. Immobilization at knee joint will be required and treatment will be according to test results. Mind it, This is serious if ignored.
