What Causes Pain In The Left Calf That Radiates To The Foot?

I have pain in my left calf that radiates to my foot as the day progresses.it hurts when I walk and i am only pain free when I am sitting. It hurts when I lie in bed. I am a volunteer dog walker and by the end of my three hours, my leg really hurts. I am 68 years young and have always been very active. Thank you.

Hi,
If I were your treating Doctor for this case of severe pain in the left calf, I would come up with these possibilities in my mind, these include:
1.The first possibility is of Calf Muscle Strain. Diagnosis can be confirmed by taking any painkiller[ibuprofen+paracetamol]with any[ PPI] and give warm compression.
2.The second possibility is of filariasis which can be ruled out by doing a blood differential count and check your eosinophilic % in blood.
3.The last possibility is of varicose vein- its diagnosis can be made by Inspection, palpation, percussion ,Trendelenburg test after confirmation clinically a Doppler imaging study is made to confirm the diagnosis.
4)By doing imaging study both [Deep vein thrombosis and Peripheral Arterial Disease]can be ruled out.

I suggest you to consult a surgical specialist in your local area after all tests and Ultrasound exam.
Thanks
