What Causes Pain In The Left Side Of The Lower Abdomen In A 66-year-old?

My mom is 66 years old and has pain in her lower abdomen on the left side. She feels like it is hard when she pushes on it and has recently just came on. She does have a history of diverticulosis but unsure which side as it was 10 years ago or longer that she had trouble and was diagnosed.

Hello,

That is certainly the area that you would have pain in if you had diverticulitis. It would be a good idea for her to see her doctor for an exam.

If it is diverticulitis, then she may need antibiotics to clear it up. In the meantime, make sure she is drinking plenty of water and does not get constipated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Robinson
