What Causes Pain In The Lower Jaw?

I went to the dentist as my lower jaw has been hurting for over a month. after xrays nothing found, no problems with my teeth or gums. I went to my family dr. and they are saying a pulled muscle in the lower jaw. This problem has been going on for over a month, it hurts to chew, open my month and the pain is constant. I have applied heat, cold compress and have been taking 4 alleve every 4 to 6 hrs.

This can be a problem with your temporo-mandibular joint.

Check if you clench your teeth during sleep or awake. You must go for a soft splint in that case.Go for jaw exercises which reduce stress on your jaw.
Make sure your EAR is free of any infections.
Don't stress yourself which can lead to pain in the muscles.
