What Causes Pain In The Lower Right Abdomen?

I had my old man checkup a few months ago and all was fine; began having pain in the lower right side of my stomach yesterday and noticed bright red blood on the paper after I used the bathroom this AM; pain feels like diverticulitis (which I have suffered from before on the left side) but most sites indicate that LEFT side pain is more common. Any ideas??? I am 50 by the way!

The pain in the right side of the abdomen with a known history of diverticulitis can be due to diverticulitis as you rightly suspected. We have to confirm this by Contrast Enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
The other reasons can be obviously- appendicitis, colitis, ovarian or tubal pathology.
The CT will help in diagnosis of almost all problems. IF necessary you can go for Colonoscopy and biopsy.
If appendicitis - go for surgery.
