What Causes Pain In The Nipple After Taking Testosterone Injection?

Hi My husband takes testosterone injections and sometimes his nipples hurt, and they get real hard. This comes and goes. We were wondering if this is due to the injections, or if it may be something else that causes this? He has been doing injections for years, but this seems to be happening more often now. Any ideas or anything we should look out for? It is just the actual nipple part. I would appreciate any help. Thank You

Hello,

Sore nipples following testosterone replacement therapy are due to the excess estradiol formation. Your husband will need to get tested for serum estradiol levels. According to the level, treatment with anti-estrogen or aromatase inhibitors needs to be initiated. Please be advised to follow-up with his treating physician for necessary evaluation and management.
