Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain in my right lower buttock with some spasms. Also have pain in right thigh at the top , going across the thigh towards the hip. Have been in physical therapy for the butt pain for 12 weeks and the thigh pain began when I started pulling leg towards the chest to stretch the butt. Thigh pain is constant when upright and moving and causes a limp
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Many conditions and diseases can cause pain in the buttocks associated with pain at top of the thigh. Common conditions are: bursitis, piriformis syndrome, arthritis of the sacroiliac joints, and herniated disc with sciatica. Piriformis syndrome is a neuromuscular disorder that occurs when the sciatic nerve is compressed or otherwise irritated by the piriformis muscle (one of the six muscles in the lateral rotator group of thigh). causing pain, tingling and numbness in the buttocks and along the path of the sciatic nerve descending into thigh.
All symptoms related to buttock pain must be evaluated in terms of their intensity, duration, location, and aggravating or relieving factors.
